Awesome Attitude
Mental & Physical Safety
Behavior:
Behavior is based off of our TEAM matrix, which is used throughout the entire school at all grade levels. Students will learn how to act appropriately within different learning environments. The behaviors are covered numerous times throughout the school year and revisited as often as needed (especially after breaks or days off).
Grading Process:
The grading process used at Mt Pleasant Middle School is different than the Elementary’s. We use a grade system with + or – scale. The grading scale is as follows:
100-93% A 86-84% B 76-74% C 66-64% D
92-90% A- 83-80% B- 73-70% C- 63-60% D-
89-87% B+ 79-70% C+ 69-67% D+ less than 59% F
If a student falls into the D or F range, then we will make contact with home prior to this being a final grade to ask for help or to recommend additional time needed with small groups or if intervention is needed.
Trimester 1 Grade = Marking Period 1 (43%) + Marking Period 2 (43%) + Exam (14%)
Trimester 2 Grade = Marking Period 3 (43%) + Marking Period 4 (43%) + Exam (14%)
Trimester 3 Grade = Marking Period 5 (43%) + Marking Period 6 (43%) + Exam (14%)
Determination of Grades by subject:
In Science and Social Studies grades are based on tests, quizzes, projects, in-class assignments and homework (70% - test, quizzes and projects; 30% - in-class assignments and homework).
In Math grades are based on tests, quizzes, projects, in-class assignments and homework (75% - test, quizzes and projects; 25% - in-class assignments and homework).
ELA 1 & ELA 2 is based on assessments and assignments (40% - assessments; 60% - assignments)
Homework:
Students will have homework some nights; however, we try not to give homework on the weekends and holidays. Homework is classwork that did not get finished in class. Students are to take home all assignments that were given that day. The teacher who assigned the homework will check homework on the following day. Again, we will keep track of homework completion, which will, in turn, reflect their final grade.
Late and tardy assignments will be kept track of and will make up the effort grade. If the previous days class work is not completed, then students grades will decrease by 10% with every day that pasts. After 3 days, the student can only receive half credit for the assignment.
Each night students should read 30 minutes. This can be the students Accelerated Reading books from school or anything else of their choosing. Some ideas are magazines, newspapers, nonfiction, resource books, or any type of reading book at their level.
Communication:
The students review the daily agenda every morning to know what to expect for the day and also if they have any homework or upcoming tests/quizzes. Please refer to our team's daily email that includes the daily agenda to keep track of what your student is doing in class and what their homework is.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at any time.
