My Journey to Becoming a TeacherGrowing up, I always enjoyed helping others. Before college I thought I wanted to be a nurse, but then several people in my life kept bringing teaching to my attention since a lot of my time spent was either planning the next major event for school (i.e.: homecoming/prom dances, pep assemblies, etc.) or participating in some kid-centered program (i.e.: coaching, kids ministry, mentoring, etc.). Around this time I was also assigned to a kindergarten mentoring program, and I really enjoyed my time in the classroom; therefore, the more I had thought about it, the more I fell in love with the idea, so I decided to change my path to pursue teaching. It was very scary initially because I always thought I wanted to do something different. Once I started my college classes and actually got into the classroom, however, I knew that I had chosen the right career. I have an absolute blast getting to know students and see how much they can grow in just a year. It's truly an amazing experience and I feel honored to be a part of it.

It has been a very busy summer getting ready for the new school year with all the new changes, but it has also been a very exciting one. Outside of school I spent a lot of time with my daughter, Blair. She is running everywhere and trying to speak words now, so she keeps me busy. I was back and forth between Grand Haven, Grand Rapids, and Midland spending time with friends and family quite a bit. I love spending time at our parents places because both live on water and that is one of my favorite places to be in the summer. It’s been a lot of go go go, but I’ve loved every second of it! Now I am ready to begin my fourth year at Mt Pleasant Middle School :)
